Eurotrip Part 3: Amsterdam!

The final destination of our trip was Amsterdam! First of all, this city is huge and there were so many people everywhere! It was a little overwhelming arriving the first day. Everyone bikes there and they do not stop for pedestrians lol plus the driving there is crazy too- it seems like there are no traffic rules and people even drive up on the sidewalks to get around other cars or bikes! Amsterdam is also known for it's tolerance, so there is constant marijuana smoke and of course the red light district. Amsterdam is very pretty though overall with the medieval buildings and churches, tulips, and of course the canal with house boats everywhere. We got to go on a tour of the canal our first day there and even though it was freezing it was fun being able to see everything; there are a lot of crooked buildings there from the 1600's and all of them are smooshed together :)
We also went to the Rijksmuseum which was really cool (and huge), and the MOMA which was nearby; we didn't get to go to the Van Gogh museum unfortunately since the line was so huge and not enough time. We stood in line in the freezing cold for 2 hours for the Anne Frank house but I think it was worth it! It's nothing extravagant of course but it was humbling to be able to see their hiding place in person after reading her book in school, and the effect she has had on the world.
My favorite part of Holland was the Keukenhof tulips gardens! Although it isn't fields you can walk through like I'm used to in Washington, it was gorgeous and 3 hours was not enough to see them all! My phone is overloaded with pictures lol and they even had giant rabbits and baby goats you could pet! It was ridiculously crowded though, so it was difficult getting pictures without people in the way.
We had some great food there as well, including traditional Dutch food and amazing cheese! They even have a bakery there called "Ice Bakery" by Nutella where everything has Nutella! I got the doughnuts and hot chocolate :)
I always enjoy my time in Europe, and coming home is always bittersweet.
