Rome, Italy

Well, we've been home about a week now and I'm finally getting around to posting about our trip! I'm going to separate each country we visited to make it a little easier for details and pics :)
First on the list was Rome!
We spent about 2 1/2 days there initially, so quick but fun! Then at the end of our trip we flew back for a night before heading back home in the morning since it was cheaper that way.
We first visited the Vatican, and wow is it amazing! There was so much to see we pretty much spent the whole day there (we had to anyway since the airport lost our luggage and delivered it late that day!) The Sistine Chappel was so pretty and surreal to see in person! St. Peter's Basilica was my fave, so stunning! The art is incredibly intricate and detailed; we visited the tombs of the previous Pope's as well and saw what is known as Peter the Apostle's tomb and it was incredible!
The next day we visited the Colosseum and it was also amazing! A little creepy due to the historical events that happened there, but also fascinating! We walked all along there and to the Roman Forum before heading to the Trevi Fountain later (which was ridiculously packed!)
The food was amazing of course, our favorite dish to eat was the fresh mozzarella and prosciutto; we also had some great pasta, bread, and gelato :) Our hotel had amazing breakfast in the morning, including fresh from the oven croissants with chocolate (pain au chocolat) that were warm and gooey and sprinkled with powdered sugar....yum!!!
Before we headed to the airport the next day we visited Castel Sant'Angelo which had an amazing view of the Vatican/ St. Peter's square and fancy Royal decor inside!
On the day we went back to Rome before flying home, we stayed at a beautiful hotel and spa near the airport and it was the PERFECT way to end a fun but tiring trip! Major props to hubs for booking this place! ;)
